ACHAVAL FERRER

Image
I fell in love with this little boutique vineyard in Mendoza - Argentina. I visited about 10 wineries during my stay in Mendoza, and nothing came close to ACHAVAL FERRER. From the minute I stepped in their property I was treated like royalty. Their vineyard is just precious. Very chic yet a very simple set up. Their staff gave me the impression that they truly love what they do and that they are very proud of the absolutely precious wine that they produce. After a short but very interesting and informative tour, I got to sit down outdoors, along with a few other visitors, facing the view of the vines down the valley, and we got to taste their beautiful wines. A very knowledgeable vigneron told us the history of their vineyard and went over each wine we were tasting, talking about the flavors, the notes, the years, & the blends... Achaval Ferrer is the first Argentine winery to score 96 points in Wine Spectator and their wines will continue to blaze a trail and prove to the skeptic

Sex Secrets of the Périgord Black Truffle

Image
From the New York Times - Interesting article for us, gourmands! (thanks tio miguel!) Unearthing the Sex Secrets of the Périgord Black Truffle By NICHOLAS WADE The black truffle of Périgord, the cynosure of every foodie’s dreams, is about to yield its most intimate secrets to a team of French and Italian researchers who have decoded its genome. Surely a great day for gastronomy and yet — truffle-lovers be advised — some of the new discoveries may reveal more than you really wanted to know. Truffles are the fruit of fungi that infect the roots of certain trees. They are of keen interest to pigs, particularly sows, because some secrete androstenol, a hormone produced by boars before mating. People who use sows to hunt for truffles often find it hard to prevent a sex-crazed animal from eating the truffle she has found and may lose fingers in the attempt. It turns out the truffles, too, have sex lives, said Dr. Francis Martin, a plant biologist at the University of Nancy in France and lea

— Charles Baudelaire

Me apaixonei por essa serie! Olha só que lindo esse trabalho! Soul Reverie is a range of 14 surreal photo montages using vintage imagery with an enchantingly eerie twist. The swiss artist, Catirn Welz-Stein, has developed a unique style of digital collage with a very magical feel to it. These stunning art cards are all blank inside to compliment the simple beauty of the images. http://www.souluk.com/department/soul_reverie/

gratitude

Image
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. Melody Beattie

Oops, I burned myself..

Image
That's what happens when you try to cook lunch, talk on the phone, type a proposal, and plan a dinner party at same time. So I burned my arm, and it hurts. Actually now it doesn't hurt anymore because I applied EGG WHITES on the burn. Did you know that egg whites are a miracle cure for burns, even severe ones? Soak or coat affected area in egg white. While the egg white is still wet you will feel no pain from the burn. As soon as it dries up the pain comes back so reapplication is necessary. This method not only alleviates the pain it actually heals and prevents scarring from the burn. Egg whites are also great to lower fever. Soak 2 cloths or handkerchiefs in egg whites and put on the soles of the feet (cover with socks). The egg whites instantaneously start to draw the temperature DOWN from the brain (where it is dangerous) to the feet (where it can do no damage). I would like to let more people know about the miraculous effectiveness of treating fevers and burns with egg whi

Mr. Brainwash

Image
Today I rode my bike past a gallery in the Meat Packing district and had to stop. From the outside, the art looked interesting, very POP, very Andy Warhol. I parked my bike and walked into the 15,ooo Square Feet gallery, full of fine art and installations. The exhibit in fact is FUN. Some of the art, I think, is a tiny bit cheesy, but over all it's kind of a good ride. All about icons. Well, the show is called "icons", and the artist's name is Mr. Brainwash. I hear he is Bansky's friend. If you are in the neighborhood, stop by. I think you will enjoy it. Here are some shots I took of the exhibit . Click on the images to enlarge them.
