Charlie Brooker calls on women to rule the world

Image
Women - why aren't you running the world yet? Frankly I'm disappointed in you. Men are still far too dominant for their own good, and consequently we've made a testosterone-sodden pig's ear of just about everything: politics, the economy, religion, the environment ... you name it, it's in a gigantic man-wrought mess. The world's been one big dick-swinging contest, and we've caught our collective glans in a nearby desk fan. By rights we should be squealing for your help, but we're not, because we're too damn stupid and too damn proud. We swagger convincingly, and that's about it. And swaggering's fine for scraping by in primitive times, but the world we've built is altogether more complex now. We've got stock exchanges and nuclear warheads. It's too easy to swagger your way into big trouble without even realising. Well, we've had our turn. It's time for the Rise of the Ladies. We don't need a few wome

8 Reasons to Practice Headstand (Salamba Shirshasana)

Image
1. Increases Stamina and Strength and Promotes Good Posture Headstand builds strength in the neck and shoulders as well as the abdominals and upper spine. 2. Improves Cardiovascular Functioning Inversions reduce strain on the heart which normally works against gravity. While in headstand de-oxygenated blood is able to flow more easily from the extremities to the heart. 3. Strengthens and Massages the Lungs Due to gravity, the lower parts of the lungs receive more fluids which cause the tissue in the lower lungs to be more condensed. As a result, when we inhale air moves more freely to the upper part of the lungs. When we invert, blood moves to the upper part of the lungs facilitating a more efficient oxygen-blood exchange. Also, the weight of the internal organs massages the lungs increasing vital capacity as the lungs learn to breathe against the added weight. 4. Stimulates the Digestive System Headstand increases digestive fire boosting ene

Each one's house - Walcyr Carrasco

Image
(Texto em ingles e portugues - Text in english and portuguese) My mom sent me this text and because I think it is a good reading for this time of the year I decided to share it with you. I translated it from portuguese to english so we could all enjoy it. Each one's house by Walcyr Carrasco At this time of the year, I like to deal with life. I give clothes that I do not use anymore, books I do not want to read again. I ship boxes to libraries. I may even drop a volume in a mall or cafe, with a message: "Read and pass it on." I try to evaluate my actions through a larger perspective. I think of the story of the Three Little Pigs. Each built his house. Two of them, the wolf easily knocked down. But the third survived because it was solid. In my opinion, children's stories have great wisdom, beyond the story itself. I like this one especially. I imagine that the life of each one is like a home. Weak or strong, depending on how it is constructed.   Man

30 Things to Stop Doing to Yourself

Image
When you stop chasing the wrong things you give the right things a chance to catch you. As Maria Robinson once said, “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”  Nothing could be closer to the truth.  But before you can begin this process of transformation you have to stop doing the things that have been holding you back. Here are some ideas to get you started: Stop spending time with the wrong people. – Life is too short to spend time with people who suck the happiness out of you.  If someone wants you in their life, they’ll make room for you.  You shouldn’t have to fight for a spot.  Never, ever insist yourself to someone who continuously overlooks your worth.  And remember, it’s not the people that stand by your side when you’re at your best, but the ones who stand beside you when you’re at your worst that are your true friends. Stop running from your problems. – Face them head on.  No, it won’t be
