CALVIN

Image
Calvin I spotted those peepers from the opposite side of the subway car. I made a beeline straight to where those turquoise magnetic marbles were and didn't even think before I asked Mr Killer Eyes if in fact those were real. "Excuse me sir, are those eyes for real?" And Mr Killer Eyes opened a killer smile, and said, "but of course they are darling!" Detecting my accent in record speed, he followed by asking me where I was from and when I told him that I was from Brazil, we were on for a long chat. Mr Killer Eyes, aka Calvin's dream is to go to Brazil someday. We chatted all the way from Canal to 23rd Street and I could not get enough of those unbelievable gems. I asked him if women have fallen for his eyes all his life. He grinned big and said: "Today I am happy that my eyes attracted the eyes of a Brazilian lady...That just made my day!" People are ALWAYS open to compliments, and with a couple simple words you can make someone's day...

In a Sentimental Mood and why I LOVE NEW YORK!

Image
http://vimeo.com/21660130 (click the link to watch Les Goodson playing In a Sentimental Mood. If link doesn't work, copy and paste the link onto your browser) On this particular evening, I was on my way home, tired and cold, and was about to take a taxi when I decided to quit being a sissy and take the train. Boy I am glad I did! In the subway station I met Les Goodson, the saxophone player that is playing in this video. His music put a big smile on my face and filled my heart with joy. I shot this little movie using my beloved iPhone. It amazes me that a musician of this caliber has to play in a subway station in order to make a couple of bucks. But in a selfish way, I am glad they do. This was a treat. Les Goodson band plays at Paris Blues, every Wednesday, from 8pm-12am PARIS BLUES 2021 Adam Clayton Power Jr Blvd at 121st Street 212-222-9878

Wonderful New Yorker - Mr Leghead

It was nice meeting Mr Leghead on Prince Street. I had seen him many times, riding his bike or skate around, full (4) legged. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

MEGA LIMO

This limo was parked in front of my building last night and I had to register it.

Nature X Big City

Image
©anacissapinto Just yesterday I was talking to my nephew about the last time that he was visiting from Brazil, and how we were hanging out on my rooftop, on 3rd Ave and 11th Street - in the middle of Manhattan - and we saw a giant falcon take a pigeon, right in front of us. This morning I received a visit from another extraordinary flying creature. A beautiful New Yorker cicada is chilling in my living room right now. Looks like she had a long night. Good morning Nature! I am so glad I can't escape you!

Wonderful New Yorkers "Jah"

Image
I don't know his name, but we rode the train together today. The had a cool "Futebol" sweat shirt on and I decided to call him (for now) Jah Haile. He seemed as intrigued by me as I was intrigued by him. I love his vibe so I am posting him on my new column "WONDERFUL NEW YORKERS"
