My Fasting - The Master Cleanse



A lot of you have been asking me about my fasting. It is called:
THE MASTER CLEANSE
I have compiled some information – and added some personal notes as well to pass it on.
Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have. I do love the way this fast makes me feel and will be glad to share any information that I have about it.
The Master Cleanse, also known as the Lemon Cleanse and the Maple Syrup Diet, is a body and mind detoxification program created by alternative medicine performer Stanley Burroughs in 1941. Burroughs states that “it is a detoxification program that aids in the removal of harmful toxins like pesticides, hormones, prescription drugs, chemical fertilizers, heavy metals and congestion that have built up in the body.”
Here are some of the health benefits that the Lemonade Cleanse may help you accomplish:

Even revitalize your sex life.
This alone may make this cleanse seem worth while all with in 10 Days. However, when doing the cleanse, many wish to stay on it longer because they feel so good.
I like adding Colonics (one before starting and one after) and also add an infra-red Sauna session *.
During the cleanse, I also treat myself to a few massages, and a Platza Oak Leaf scrub*
And I take lots of Epson Salt Baths* as well!
Those were just some add-ons, you know…why not?

The Master Cleanser ingredients -
There's only a few ingredients you're going to need for the master cleanse, but it's important that you use the exact products I'm going to tell you about and don't make any substitutions.
Unlike other diets the Master Cleanse doesn't require any exotic or expensive ingredients. In fact it might be the most cost effective diet in history.
Main Ingredients for the Master Cleanse Recipe:
Pure Filtered Water
Grade B Organic Maple Syrup
Organic Cayenne Pepper
Organic Lemons
Sea salt - Unrefined, (Not iodized) or Epsom Salt

A few things to keep in mind:
Use organic ingredients. The goal of the Master Cleanse is to remove toxic substances from your body so stay away from ingredients that have been sprayed with pesticides.
Don't use concentrated lemon juice. If you have to, you can use non-organic lemons, but you cannot use concentrated lemon juice because It's filled with sugar and preservatives.
Make sure the sea salt is unrefined or not iodized. This will be used as a laxative, if salt intake is a problem for you I'll show you another type of laxative in the Optional Ingredients below:

The first of the optional ingredients, the laxative tea can be used in place of, or in addition to the sea salt flush. The purpose of both of these items is to increase eliminations. Of the two, the sea salt is the more effective, but if you can’t deal with the sea salt flush the laxative tea will work fine. The tea can be found in most grocery stores, and is sold under different brand names. NOTE: I don't like using the laxative tea. I prefer by far using the sea salt flush. The first couple of times it is hard to drink it, but after a few days you will do it easily. Try using luke warm water. It helps! :)



The Master Cleanse Recipe
The Master Cleanse works just how it sounds; you consume primarily lemonade for the entire time you're on the diet. So the recipes for the diet itself are fairly simple. You should drink a minimum of 60 oz of lemonade a day, but can drink more if you like. You can also drink as much water as you want. It is suggested that you consume your body weight in ounces of water. (i.e: If you weigh 110 lbs drink, drink 110 oz of water
Below are two different recipes. The first is for a single serving of the master cleanse lemonade. The second will make 6 servings
#1 (single serving):
2 Tablespoons of organic lemon Juice (about 1/2 a Lemon)
2 Tablespoons of Organic grade B maple syrup (not the commercial maple flavored syrup you use on pancakes)
1/10 Teaspoon Cayenne pepper powder
Ten ounces of filtered or spring water
#2 (60 oz. daily serving):
60 ounces of filtered or spring water
12 Tablespoons of organic grade B maple syrup
12 Tablespoons of organic lemon juice
1/2 Teaspoon cayenne pepper powder
There are a couple important things to remember when preparing the lemonade.
For one, the lemon juice used must be fresh squeezed. This cannot be emphasized enough. It is necessary to use fresh produce. Canned juice won't work and will erase most of the benefits of using the master cleanser diet.
Also, the maple syrup must be grade B maple syrup, not the sugar filled syrup that is used at the breakfast table.
The cayenne pepper might seem unnecessary, but it is actually very important. Not only does it help to add a bit of a kick, but the pepper helps to break up mucus and increases healthy blood flow. It also is a good source of B and C vitamins, commonly referred to as Super Vitamins due to their many benefits for the body.
Mixing teas with the recipe is one way to help modify things, just make sure It's decaffeinated tea because caffeine can restrict blood vessels and we want to keep your body passages as open as possible.
Important: If you prepare the juice in advance don't add the cayenne pepper until you are ready to drink it. The cayenne pepper flavors get stronger when it soaks in the liquid. Meaning the more it seats in the juice the spicier it will get!
Flush Out Your System, a very important part of this cleanse
Drinking two level teaspoons of unrefined non-iodized sea salt mixed with 25-35 ounces of water will flush out your system.
I've found it best to drink the LUKE WARM salt water in the morning.
I advise you give yourself at least an hour before you go out when you do this. The salt water flush will work fast, and you will discover why you should probably be at home near a bathroom when you use them.

How Long Should You Stay on The Master Cleanse? And Exiting the Master Cleanse
There's a lot of different peoples takes on fasting and the lemonade diet. While most people stick to the 10 day rule, there are some who say that it's okay to stay on the diet for 30 or more days. If you're just starting out on the Master Cleanse It's best not to stay on it for more than 10 days.
Your body needs nourishment, and that comes from food. Now, the lemonade diet gives your body a much needed rest which is good. And by only consuming the lemonade your body can take a break from the usual digesting, detoxing, filtering, and other activities it endures when you are eating your normal diet.
This allows your body to turn its attention on the internal impurities, and work at getting rid of them -- which in the 10 days on the lemonade diet it will.
After you've done the Cleanse a few times, and know how it affects your body you might want to stay on it for longer than 10 days, but you should know that the Master Cleanse is a restrictive diet, and that staying on it too long could be unhealthy.
Exiting the Master Cleanse
Due to the massive changes in the body that the Lemonade Diet incurs, exiting the diet requires a careful process. It is not good to just drop the diet and go back to eating the same foods you were eating prior to the diet. This will mess up your system and cause it to go haywire. Rather, since the body has adjusted to the Lemonade Diet, some important steps should be followed to help the body come off the Lemonade Diet properly. Here are some important guidelines to follow:
The first day of ending the diet is when you should still only consume liquids. Start drinking a lot of orange juice and water. Drink slowly and let it settle. More water never hurt anybody, so drink plenty. Orange juice is good for helping the body to adjust back to digesting regular food.
On the second day, continue drinking orange juice and lots of water. Now you can add in light soups to the diet plan. It is best to use vegetable soup as this is healthy and very light, and you can also use Rye wafers. This food will be easy on the stomach and will help it to adjust back properly.
On day three you should continue eating should and drinking plenty of water. For dinner, you can now add in fruits, vegetables, and salad. These foods are still easy on the stomach and very healthy.
For the next couple days follow this sort of plan and ease yourself back into a normal diet. Don't rush it; let your stomach calibrate itself. Also, avoid meats and milk for a while. Milk can mess up your stomach during this process and meat is very hard for the stomach to digest. Both of these should be avoided for at least a couple weeks after coming off of the Lemonade Diet.
Here are some frequently asked questions about The Master Cleanse:

What if I feel hungry?
The lemonade is a true 'appetite
suppressant', but when you feel
hungry, drink a little of the lemonade.
On a personal note, I usually keep a
thermo with lemonade for when I feel hungry.
A small sip of the lemonade reminds me of how
wonderful I now feel.
Will I feel sick during the diet?
You may feel a stirring in your system
for the first two-three days, but this is
the result of toxins circulating in your
blood stream as the body goes through
its first stages of the cleanse. Keep
right on the diet! don't cheat...You can
do it! after the third day, your energy
will increase and you will start seeing
the benefits.
Does the diet supply the nutrients
necessary for the body?
Yes, the lemons and limes provides the
richest source of minerals and vitamins
of any food. Maple has a large variety
of minerals and vitamins, and the
Cayenne adds many of the B and C
Vitamins. The lemonade is food in
liquid form.
Do I need to add the Cayenne?
Yes, adding the cayenne pepper to the
lemonade is necessary as it breaks up
mucus and increases warmth by
building the blood for additional
energy.
Spring Water or Distilled Water?
You can use either one. Distilled water
is the purest form of water, but
sometimes is questioned due to a great
deal of misconceptions.
How much should I drink?
Take 6 - 10 glasses of lemonade
during the day. Six (6) glasses for
those wishing to reduce. Extra water
may be taken as desired.
Can I also use limes?
Yes, you may use limes, but never vary
the amount of lemon/lime juice per
glass.
Can I use any type of Maple Syrup?
You need to use genuine GRADE B maple syrup.
(not maple flavored maple sugar syrup)
The mineral and vitamin content of the
GRADE B maple syrup vary according to the area
where the trees grow and the mineral
content of the soil. The recommended
syrup needs to be 'formaldehyde-free
organic maple syrup.
Can I replace the maple with honey?
You may not!
Should I take vitamins?
It is suggested not to take vitamins. The
lemonade provides all the vitamins and
minerals needed.
What is the Salt Water Flush/Bathing?
This is the method for cleaning the
colonic tract. It is prepared with
uniodized sea salt, and taken in and
empty stomach in the morning.
My tonque feels fuzzy and my breath
does not feel fresh, what can I do?
This is a reaction as the body is
experiencing a change by eliminating
toxins. Your tongue will start clearing and
will turn a healthy pink as your cleansing
progresses. Mint tea may be used
occasionally to help rid of the bad taste. The
chlorophyll in mint tea helps as a purifier,
neutralizing mouth and body odors that
are released during the cleansing period.
My skin feels dry, why?
Once again this is due to the changes
your body is experiencing. Pamper
yourself! a hot herbal bath with emollient
oils will do wonders.
I'm getting back pains, why?
Back pain is usually a sign of dehydration; increase
your water intake. Some people known to
have kidney stones have experienced
passing the stones during the cleanse.
What to do with a headache?
When fasting a slight headache indicates
dehydration and low blood sugar;
drink a glass of water mixed with a
1/2 tsp of Maple Syrup.If, you are
a coffee or soda drinker, then most likely
its caffeine withdrawl , it will go away after
the 2nd day.
Can I exercise during the cleansing?
Absolutely! You will feel very energised, specially
after the 3rd day. I personally exercise 5 tp 6 times a week
even when I am doing the cleanse. Believe-me
If you are doing the cleanse correctly, you will
feel very powerful!
Will my sleep be affected?
Yes! You will sleep like a ROCK!
I have the BEST night sleep when doing the cleanse!
How much weight will I lose?
That varies from person to person.
I never lost more than 5lb (2-3Kgs)
when doing the cleanse, but I have friends that have lost 10
to 14lb (5-6Kgs). Basically, the more weight you have to lose
the more you will lose. ( I am talking about a 10 day cleanse period. I am pretty sure that the longer you do it the more weight you will lose)

Please note, this is NOT a diet to lose weight.
This is a cleanse to rid you body of toxins and
impurities.

*Infrared sauna promoters state that infrared radiant heat is safe and beneficial, claiming that the heat penetrates more than 1.5 inches (40 mm) into the body. The argument is based on the idea that the wavelengths of far infrared waves are typically between 5.8 and 1000 micrometers. This is supposed to correspond to the vibration of the water molecule at 9.4 micrometers. Because these vibrations are similar, say promoters, the infrared rays help knock toxins loose from fat cells into the body, and those toxins are then released through sweating. They claim this heals and stimulates tissues, and that it is effective therapy for arthritis and tissue injuries.

Dr. Sherry Rogers, a fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and a diplomat of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, says in her book Detoxify or Die that an infrared sauna is the only way of removing man-made toxins from your body. Dr. Rogers also states that bio-accumulated toxic load in the human body is responsible for all disease not attributable to bacteria or virus.

Because the skin is the largest organ of the body, regularly sweating in a far infrared sauna can help decrease the toxic load and contribute to better health and vitality. One of the ways that infrared sauna use is beneficial for a wide range of ailments is through the increase in circulation that it causes in the body.[3] Increased circulation is often believed to be helpful in a variety of ways, and is generally regarded as beneficial for health.[4]
*Platza Oak Leaf Scrub
The oak leaves contain a natural astringent, which will open your pours, remove toxins, and actually take off layers of dead skin. Some described the platza as "Jewish acupuncture".

  7. Thanks for all the tips, Ana. I'm Chris Grant's friend. He introduced us through facebook around Christmas time. I have a skin condition called Xanthelasma and read in a chat room that someone cleared hers up by doing the cleanse for 12 days.

    It would be a miracle if it actually worked (dermatologists say the condition can only be surgically removed) but I'm going for it! Do you want to do it with me? I heard it's best to wait till warmer weather, which makes sense. My friend Glennie said she'd do it again, too. I feel like I can use all the support I can get!
